Open Water Experience

Open Water is biggest trend in swimming right now!  The Stowe Swimmers are right there out in front with 3 Friday's available this summer to give it a try.  Our USS registered swimmers are motivated to conquer the open water, ready to over come any anxiety about being out in the lake, and some are taking on a race!

Best of luck to Reade Lawson, Heidi Brynn, & Seychelle Duckworth who are taking on the 1 mile, at The Kingdom Swim, on Lake Memphremagog in Vermont.

FACT: 2012 Olympics in London will host the first 10K open water event!  US Swimmers are expected to do very well!
Here are some great pictures from our 1st outing at the Waterbury Reservoir on 6/22.  It wouldn't be a fun open water practice if we didn't get to cover someone in the sand!

Stowe Swimmers was founded in 2001 and was formed with a goal of creating an environment where swimmers experience success in the water through stroke improvement, with a focus on improving personal best times, appreciation of team friendships & team spirit.  Practices consist of a warm-up period, stroke drill period for technical development & a cardiovascular period to help kids improve their swimming & overall fitness, followed by a cool down period & practice on starts.  Fun is emphasized as much as the workouts with team games, relays and more.

Spring at The Swimming Hole -

The Stowe Swimmers have been in the pool for 5 weeks of our Spring Stroke Clinic!  One week left and we will be watching the videos of our workouts to check in on technique.  Our goals have been to work on our underwaters off the wall, meaning our dolphin kicks.  To use each wall to gain speed and explode rather than rest off the wall with passive legs.  We have committed one week to each stroke, to practice drills and body position.  This week we revisited intervals and steady cardio efforts, holding pace at 65-70% of max.

5 swimmers volunteered at the 9th Annual Stowe Triathlon and helped time the participants' 500 meter swims in the pool.  They represented their Club well and cheered for the racers and enjoyed watching a 500 rather than swimming one for a change.  They also got to watch and time their coach race, which was fun role reversal!  Thanks Rachel, Emily, Seychelle, Megan, and Heidi!

Summer Swim Club starts on Monday, June 18th

We are looking forward to a fast and fun 7 week season working toward the Vermont State Swim Championships!
