A busy 2 weeks for the Stowe Swimmers this year, and everyone was eager to get back in the water after a week of rest. I have details about the 1st 2 weeks of the new year below, which by the way is an Olympic Year, a SUMMER Olympic Year. We are well aware of that in the swimming community, and I want the team to understand how important that is. Swimmers just like them have been working their whole lives toward this year, and it only comes every 4 years! As a team we will be following our favorite and some unknown swimmers to the US Team Trials, June 25 - July 2 in Omaha, Nebraska. As a young swimmer it is so exciting to learn about great athletes in your sport, and watch them go for their goals, and my hope is that we are all inspired by this year. Help your swimmer get excited about the Summer Olympics, the USA Swimming web site is a great source of information, check it out and find a swimmer you want to follow!
Week #11 of the season, January 3-8 we focused on Reflecting on our Goals. Remember our early season goals and to continue to go for it, or reevaluating if needed or develop new goals to better ourselves and our swimming. The Juniors were excited to be in the water again and swam strong, as their endurance has improved, ability to follow the work out and swim together has also improved, and their technique is also showing progress. They have fun each day they are in the water and their team cheer rivals the Senior group!
We also had another meet this week and swam great! The Results have not been released yet but we had more NE Regional Qualifying times accomplished as well as some best times and first times. As soon as they are released I will post them!
Week #12, January 9-12 Dig Deep - even when you feel your at the bottom!
The swimmers all swam hard this week, we stared Monday with Dice Day! A roll of the dice to determine the workout. We teamed up with all ages for the 1st part of practice and the juniors rolled for their teams, working on Streamlines and using our friends as drag by pulling them down the pool! Thursday was Drag Suit Day, a fun day for Senior swimmers to spice practice up with what ever drag they want to add to their swimming. We had long hair, socks, extra suits, tights, and tutus! Check out the pictures, but what you can't tell from the photos is how hard the kids swam, they pushed themselves for time over and over again. Way to go!
